Yesterday, I received a phone call that school would be closing early for the next two school days in order to let teachers prepare for an inevitable shutdown due to the Coronavirus. What does this mean for our children? What does it mean for parents? I don’t know about you, but the idea of “homeschooling” my kids for an undetermined period of time is causing feelings of overwhelm for me. (And I used to be a teacher!)
I know that even missing a day or two of school can cause children to regress. Yes, I know how to teach my two older children (ages 7 and 4) the skills they would be learning in school. But, the idea of doing this while at the same time doing my usual duties–cleaning, cooking, caring for my 20-month old, running my business, keeping my sanity…is a lot to handle. (I give props to all of you home-schooling moms and dads out there!)
I personally choose to limit screen-time in my house for my children. So, we will have to come up with some creative ways to stay busy and learning while we are staying home and healthy. I thought I’d share this great list of options to keep your kids busy while we’re at home avoiding the Coronavirus. What are you planning to do to stay busy??
